Sefco can arrange for our professional movers to come to your home to pack your household goods, pickup, then further pack everything into wooden liftvans for added protection.

Our rate schedule for this "origin service" is online at:
www.sefco-export.com/origin.htm

If you decide to pack/load your goods yourself, Sefco has sources in different parts of the USA where you can purchase pre-made wooden containers and liftvans. If you decide to go ahead and use our shipping service, we can put you in direct contact with our sources nearest to where you are located.

Prices: We can purchase liftvans and arrange delivery to you (see our online: purchasing service rate guide) or you can deal direct with our in-house vendors.

In general, the "net/net" cost for seaworthy pre-fabricated crates and liftvans (excluding our purchasing fee) as billed by the manufacturer (ex-their manufacturing plant, not delivered) will run:

48-cube 48" x 48" x 36" = $ 95
96-cube 48" x 48" x 72" = $ 125
108-cube 48" x 45" x 87" = $ 145
197-cube 87" x 45" x 87" = $ 175
222-cube 87" x 45" x 98" = $ 195

also: IATA approved CO-5
Air containers --
175-cube 84" x 60" x 60" = $175

We can also manufacture any special sizes you may require. These prices do not include movers/labor, and are FOB from the factory in Hickory, North Carolina.

Our suppliers can arrange trucking/delivery to you, anywhere in the US. Delivery cost depends on quantity being purchased and location (or you can pick it up yourself). Our liftvan vendor locations include: Compton CA, Las Vegas NV, Hayward CA, Sacramento CA, Jacksonville FL, Hickory NC, Havertown PA, and elsewhere. Liftvans are subject to availability (in stock). Delivery time to most locations is currently running about 3 weeks.

When buying a standard 200-cubic foot liftvan from one of our professional van line movers -- from our packers warehouse, often located nearer to where your goods are situated rather than where they actually manufacture the liftvans -- the net/net cost will run @ $250 plus the cost for any physical handling/packing of the cargo going into the liftvan.

Why is the cost for the liftvan somewhat higher, when buying through the mover vs. the manufacturer? Well, the mover had to pay for delivery of the liftvans to their own packing warehouse, and they need to make something fair on the transaction.

If a shipment is smaller than a standard 200-cft liftvan, and if there are no smaller pre-fabricated crates on hand, often, a mover will use a standard 200-cft liftvan and cut it down to size.

If your shipment is going via the LCL-less than container (sea) shipping method, and the destination is a "remote" location - like Asuncion / Paraguay, Harare / Zimbabwe, and Truk Island / Micronesia... then you should be thinging more in terms of liftvans as opposed to packed/loaded onto pallets only. Its simply more secure, and its always better to spend more on packing than less, if the destination is a higher risk locale. If unsure of what will work best, just ask us at Sefco. We are here to help.

How to figure out volume?

learn how to figure out your cubic footage

Every package has three dimensions.
To figure out the cubic footage
for a particular item
multiply the height x width x depth
(in inches) then divide by 1728.

This tells you the cubic footage volume.

This is important, for calculating the cost
to ship anything by sea or air.

Shipping a motorcycle?

Sefco has specific advice to offer for such specialized shipments. Basically the bike has to be worth the cost of shipping it abroad.

For example, if you buy a bike worth $500 and its going to cost you from $250-$500 to crate then $ 1200 (plus insurance) to fly and average-sized crated motorcycle from JFK to a major airport in Europe, then its really up to you to figure out if its worth it or not.

But if you have something worth $15,000 and it costs you around $ 1675- $1875 to export pack/document, airfreight and insure for delivery from JFK to a major European airport, then maybe its worth it.

In all cases the gas must be drained, the battery disconnected and/or removed, and clear proof of ownership (ie., original title, bill of sale) are needed to export anything titled - like a motorcycle.

Custom made motorcycle crates can be expensive.
Depending on the size and where we have it done, they can run upwards of $500 in some cases.

Instead of crating motorcycles, our packers in California use a special "bike skid" where the unit is wrapped, banded, and professionally secured onto a special pallet made for this job. It is then loaded into our ocean-consolidation container at the warehouse (going to places like Hawaii). It is further secured inside the container to make sure it arrives on the other side in good shape. The cost for this will run $ 200 flat. Ask us for a confirmation of the shipping rate.

In Spanish, they have a saying:
"Si es vale la pena".
Literally: "If its 'worth the sin'".

Ultimately, its up to you, the property owner, to decide whether the cost to ship it is worth it or not.

If you do want it professionally packed
and shipped, we can help you.

Some destinations do not require that a motorcycle be crated. Some airlines accept uncrated bikes that are rolled in and placed on a cargo-rack in the aircraft. There are ocean vessels called RORO ships that will also accept uncrated motorcycles. Please feel free to ask us if you have questions about what you can and cannot do.
