    Sefco works
    on behalf of our clientele
    :
    cargo owners, private shippers, and
    businesses engaged in export/import
        ...to ship their cargo
          across international borders,
            to destinations worldwide.

    This is highly specialized work.
At Sefco we have well over 30 years experience in the export import shipping business.

    Over the past several decades
we have developed the required know-how and connections for arranging export/import shipments and transactions. Your satisfaction is our goal.

    When working with Sefco Export,
you are working with experienced professionals.

Who we are:   United States based international freight forwarders.

Sefco does not own the ships. We work with all the major ocean shipping carriers (ship owners) to obtain information on their service routes (departing from/going to), their rates, and other guidance/policies. When appropriate we act on our shippers/clients behalf to request bookings with the selected carrier and help to coordinate the process including preparation of draft documents used in the shipping process.

Important observations on RoRo Shipping
When cargo is shipped in a standard ocean container, if it fits inside the container, it can be shipped. With RoRo shipping, rates are based on the actual measurement of the cargo. When looking for rates, it is important to know the three dimensions of the cargo measured from the furthest extremity, and the cargo weight. Each SS Line operates using their own methods and processes. In general, RoRo carriers use independent surveyors at the POL port of loading.

For general guidance on how cargo is measured,
have a look at the following information:

The ocean carriers (ship owners/operators) set their own policies, sailing schedules and stowage methods/operations. Sailing departures and arrival dates are are never guaranteed and are subject to change without prior notice. A booking number issued by an ocean carrier does not guarantee that space will be available on their nominated vessel. Some high demand destinations have vessels departing completely full, and there is always the possibility that cargo may have to wait at the POL port of loading and rolled to the ocean carriers next vessel.

Sefco acts as freight forwarder only. A good way of picturing our role, is that of the "travel agent" for your cargo. Please know that customs requirements at both ends of a shipment can and does take additional time for processing, beyond the basic port to port transit time by a vessel. Please keep that in mind.

The terms and conditions for carriage by the SS Lines (ocean carriers/ship owners) are always shown on their B/L bill of lading, and copies are available directly from the carriers, usually accessible from their web sites. B/L's can vary from country to country of origin. An example of the B/L carrier terms can be found here:

Carrier rate confirmations include their proviso the rates are valid for a very limited period of time, usually not more than 30 days, and must be reconfirmed if being shipped thereafter. Further, T/T transit times, sailing dates, and availability of space on their vessels are never guaranteed and are subject to change without prior notice. Here is a typical proviso, by HOEGH AUTOLINERS:
T/T subject to weather conditions, port rotation and overall connecting schedules Quote provided is valid 30 days from issuance, unless otherwise stated, and must be confirmed at the time of booking. Höegh Autoliners reserves the right to correct any omission or clerical error made in the quotation process. The preceding rate quote is not considered a binding agreement. A booking confirmation is provided based on space and equipment availability, and is based on acceptance of Höegh Autoliners' terms and conditions, which are available upon request. Please note cargo is freighted on actual dimensions recorded at the terminal upon delivery, which may result in a higher rate than quoted. BAF charge is per carrier's tariff, and is subject to change without notice. Free Alongside Ship (FAS): The Freight includes loading of the Cargo from alongside the Vessel in the Port of Loading, transhipments, stowage and lashing as well as unlashing and unloading of the Cargo at the Vessel’s ship side in the Port of Discharge.
