Our truckers and movers, tend to start early in the morning.
If you have a pickup or container move scheduled, the trucker dispatcher
will typically call you - by telephone - directly, before coming over,
to better advise you of their expected ETA arrival time
at your origin location.
Proper advance notice is required for container trucking operations and all
pier deliveries.
Please remember to send in a copy of your quote (we can e-mail one to you) / our
contract form (print it out and fill it in), and
your deposit to Sefco's
office (NY) sufficiently in advance of the desired pickup date.
What works: Easiest and Best
To expedite matters:
You can simply FAX us a copy of your filled-in contract form, and WIRE the funds
(deposit or payment in full)
to our Chase Manhattan bank account.
We'll give you our banking details via e-mail, and you can go to your home bank to
send it to our bank. This eliminates time waiting for a check to come in, and then several more days to wait for it to clear.
If you want prompt service and attention, wire us your deposit/payment and let us know after you have done so.
Send us a copy of any bank receipt they give you. This will allow us to get into action to properly service your account.
For moves requiring premium level,
full OA services (export packers in residence) we recommend a deposit be received (1) month in advance.
Sufficient advance notice for our container truckers is important to smooth running operations.
A SSL steamship line booking has to be in the system before truckers can be reserved - and this can take several days.
For E-service (FCL economy container service, including trucking) not including full OA/mover services
- we recommend that your deposit be received no later than 7-10 business days prior to the requested pickup date.
Orders for FCL container trucking service - received on shorter notice - will be handled on a first come first serviced basis.
Local weather conditions can impact the timing of trucker arrivals.

Besides weather conditions - traffic, road closures and security checks of trucks crossing
bridges can impact on when labor, or container truckers, will arrive at a pickup or delivery location.
Pickups done from residential areas often require greater time flexibility, than for a pickup/deliver to/from
a commercial location with warehouse loading docks (designed for quick in/out movement for truckers and cargo).

Economy service, secure options
We recommend that new customers send in your pre-shipment deposit
at least 7-10 business days in advance of when you
will need a trucking pickup and pier delivery to be done
by our vehicle truckers, our LCL-less than container-load truckers,
or our port FCL-full container-load truckers. Note: a trucker is not the same thing as a mover.
Without a pre-shipment deposit, we can not alert our truckers
about your pickup request. Most vehicle truckers will charge extra for
rush orders - pickups done on less than 3 business days notice.

Premium service, full OA services
For professional export packers (movers) in your home, we recommend sending
in your pre-shipment deposit
at least 20 business days in advance of when you
will need our export packers. 1-month advance notice is preferred. Orders for service - received with
shorter notice are handled on a first come, first served basis. Accounts with a deposit on file - and
previous existing Sefco accounts - are given priority at all times.
To secure our best truckers and best packing
crews - the further advance notice you give us - the better it works out,
operationally. Scheduling packing/pickups coming from remote locations far from the
home base of our export packing agents will require a certain degree of flexibility.
To secure export packers to pickup during a period known for very high demand,
at least 1 month advance notice may be required. Example of high-demand periods:
June/July/August 26-31, December 28-31st, the last 3 days of any month, 1-3 days immediately before and after major holidays.
Our professional origin export-packing agents may charge a
PSS-peak season surcharge for very high-demand packing/pickup dates.
How far off (in the future) is your overseas move?
Normally we will send our new customers a formal
acknowledgement of payment on the day it is received.
New customers can further expect to receive a formal order confirmation
concerning your upcoming order for service - usually within one to two business days after receipt of your deposit.
"Rush orders"
READ about: Payment instructions for rush orders.
Pickup requests that involve less than 4-business days advance notice
- from time of receipt of the deposit - may required a higher fee to be paid to
our truckers for what is known as a "special/rush" pickup.
Some truckers - in some locations (not many) -
will work on a weekend - provided they receive additional recompense - which, in shipping industry terminology, is called
"on an inducement basis". All sea ports are closed on weekends and public holidays (no matter what).
If you already have an order confirmation for a pickup by a Sefco designated trucker/packing agent,
please refer to the local contact phone number
shown on the order confirmation
for the trucker dispatcher or origin warehouse manager's name and direct phone number.
If you are bringing in your cargo, please look at your Sefco order confirmation to verify the warehouse address and phone number.
Cargo is only accepted at our Sefco export-approved packing warehouses or designated shipping terminals.
Regarding container-trucker scheduling:
We never guarantee an exact hour - arrival time for any container,
as road conditions would make such things unpredictable.
We can, however, request a time for the trucker to target
for arrival at your loading site - and then we can give you a
general window of time for the estimated time of arrival for the container.
The trucker's dispatcher will normally call you first - on the morning that they are
scheduled to do the pickup. Read our [general advice]
Regarding the scheduling of a "LCL" less than container-load pickup from your door/residence,
please keep in mind that most export packing crews in major metropolitan areas will perform several
pickups on any given day. The order of when LCL pickups are done, is determined by the operations
dispatcher for the labor/packers or truck. The route is often determined by what other pickups are also being done that day.
The final ordering of what pickup is done first, second, and third,
might only be finalized the morning of the pickup.
We suggest leaving an entire day open, when requesting a LCL packing crew/pickup.
If your pickup must be time specific, this is termed a "special" request for a specific time, and truckers
will charge extra for such requests.
Sefco Export customers will need to
send us a photocopy of their passport ID or company EIN number.
No service can be provided to "unknown parties".
Anything crossing an international border is subject to customs review and inspection.
Unidentified parties can not just show up at a port facility without
prior notice or proper documentation.
Appointments and/or formal bookings must be made in advance,
with a pre-service deposit already received by Sefco Export Management Company, Inc.
Marine cargo insurance premiums must be prepaid.
Any valued inventory lists for "all normal risks door to door coverage"
must be signed and received by our office before the pickup date. [read more...]

Further in advance is better, so we know for sure that we will be working on your behalf.
minimum 20 business days advance notice (deposit received by bank wire or FedEx) for E-service FCL containers including trucking from door (import to the USA).
Again, further in advance is better, so we know for sure that we will be working on your behalf.
30 days advance notice (deposit received by bank wire or FedEx) for reserving our Premium level OA packers.
Payment is required (in the form of a pre-service deposit) before we can open your file
and start your account - including pre-move servicing and scheduling.

Please
remit your balance
as per our quotation for shipping/handling and insurance by or before the scheduled pickup date.
Checks must clear our bank before the sailing / departure date - so if paying by personal check this means getting your check
in to our office a good 10 days ahead of time to allow for the several days time the bank will take to clear you check.
Please make sure you have sufficient funds available in your account before sending us a check.
Bounced checks will result in extra fees and an automatic HOD hold order on the cargo until
funds have cleared.

The telephone number, address, and other contact details for any existing shipment currently en-route, will be shown on a scanned copy of the steamship line's BL/bill of lading, or the airlines AWB/air-waybill. A customer can expect to receive a scanned, informational
copy of this document usually within a week's time after actual sailing/departure.

Remember though: If you do not use our Premium door-to-door overseas moving services, and instead
elect to save money, do certain things yourself via our Economy service, then our full service movers will not be involved with your shipment at the final destination. Instead you'll self-clear or pay a broker directly at destination.
If sending a FCL full container load via the economy route, you will be put in touch with the SS lines destination port agent - and if going to door - the delivery trucker (only)
and you will self-unload your cargo when it arrives at your overseas door.
The trucker waits while you / your local helpers, do the work.
That's why it is called "E" service.
If you have a budget that will afford terrific movers to unload,
unpack, set-up inside your new home, remove the packing debris...
then this is what we can arrange, for commensurate cost. Thats why this "best service" level is called our "P" service.

Premium full service customers get:
COMPLETE NORMAL DESTINATION SERVICES using our professional, well-established overseas movers at the destination port means that they take care of everything. You sign the customs forms our overseas agent provides to you, their customs broker makes the entry on your behalf - with power of attorney.
Their service is not for clearance only. Our full destination services agents have the buildings and own the trucks, supervise the "manpower", and all else involved, when performing "complete destination services" with inside delivery - from overseas port, into residence.
Clearance is one part of the whole service.
[Exception: In Brasil, the importing property owner (household goods) has always had to liaise with Brazilian customs directly. No brokers. ]
Full Premium service D/A destination agent service often means: inside placement of furniture up to 2 floors, physically put where you want it. Unwrapping, unpacking, removal of debris on the day of delivery. Courteous, well trained and helpful professional labor. In-house staff support structure for the best level of customer service.
